I just finished knitting an intricate afghan that took me over two years to complete. It could have taken a lot less time but I don't knit everyday and when life happens craft projects often take the side burner. Since finishing it, I've been looking for a quick project that doesn't take me more than a few days to make or cost an arm and a leg.
My discovery -- knitted dishcloths! You can buy 100% US grown cotton yarn from your local craft store and knit these puppies up in just a few hours! And the best part is that they are extremely useful and economical. Each one costs approximately 50 cents and they last forever. You will no longer have the need to buy sponges or throw away the old ones. Simply pop these in the wash and they're as good as new!
You can find dishcloth patterns in mini-books at your local craft store, online, or make up your own. Essentially, they are just a 9-10 inch swatch of a knitting pattern. Here are a few resources that I have found online:
Free dishcloth pattern on Ravelry.com
Spring inspired dishcloths
Holiday Knit Dishcloths
Look out for a future Etsy shop where you can buy Rustic Living Home Goods if you don't have the time to make your own. :-)
Have you made your own dishcloths before? How do you find they stand up against sponges?

Have never made my own dishcloths, though a friend recently gave me one she crocheted and I really like it. I just learned to make rag rugs last week and am working on my first one. That bad boy is solid and won't be goin' anywhere 'til the end of time, lol! It's a lot of fun to make your own things for around your home.
